10th Annual Wings of Hope Memorial Butterfly Release

Saturday, September 7, 2019
Colburn Park in Lebanon, NH
1:00 PM – 3:00 PM

The Wings of Hope Butterfly Release provides a unique and special occasion for families, friends, VNH staff, and the community to come together to honor lost loved ones.

Following a short program of readings and beautiful music, everyone releases their butterflies. Some fly away immediately, while others land on shoulders and fingertips wanting to stay for a while. There is something captivating and magical about watching the delicate winged creatures as they launch and softly dance away into the sky.

It is a powerful experience, whether as part of your grieving process or for a time to share happy memories with others who endure similar feelings of loss. There are smiles and laughter, tears of sadness and of joy, and mostly a feeling of peace and uplift. For some, this is when the healing begins.

VNH is honored to serve so many during some of the most difficult days at the end of life. Our programs and services are provided to all residents, regardless of ability to pay, in more than 160 Vermont and New Hampshire communities. Proceeds from Wings of Hope will support VNH Hospice care across the region.

To reserve butterflies to release in memory or in honor of your loved ones, please click here. The event is free and open to the public, so you do not need to purchase a butterfly to attend. I hope you will join us either way.

Barbara G. about the 9th Annual Wings of Hope

Your recent Lebanon event last Saturday was just lovely and our first time attending. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed it and, although we live in the Lakes’ Region, will attempt to get there yearly now. It was well timed, and the speakers were quite informative. We particularly liked the children’s choir. Ending with the Monarchs was over the top – extraordinary – we rarely see the beautiful creatures, and felt particularly blessed to be able to see them so close at hand – just terrific!!

Amidst your feelings of loss, reserve your butterflies now and plan to let happiness “alight upon you” in September.

Nathaniel Hawthorne

Happiness is a butterfly, which when pursued, is always just beyond your grasp, but which, if you sit down quietly, may alight upon you.
