Rita Laferriere, APRN, MS is the Director of Special Programs for Visiting Nurse and Hospice for Vermont and New Hampshire (VNH). VNH Special Programs includes Long Term Care and Maternal Child Health homecare programs. These programs include Choices for Care, Moderate Needs Program, Support and Services at Home (SASH), Pediatric Palliative Care, Strong Families Vermont, and Pediatric Hi Tech. Rita coordinates and collaborates with VNH staff and multiple community partners to provide coordinated client services and support to enrolled families, supporting client centered goal oriented care. Rita joined VNH in December 2010.
Rita began her 40 year homecare career as a homecare nurse holding positions over the years in many homecare direct service and nursing administrative roles. She is a long time member of the American Nurse Association (ANA) and currently holds certifications as adult nurse practitioner, public and community health clinical nurse specialist, and nursing case management. She has served on multiple American Nurse Association committees as well as a delegate to ANA House of Delegates. She has also served on numerous regional and state task forces, including a long time Department of Aging and Disabilities Board regional member.
Rita holds a Master of Science in Nursing degree from the University of Vermont as well as a Certificate as Adult Nurse Practitioner. She has completed the Lean Six Sigma Yellowbelt training from the Value Institute Learning Center at Dartmouth-Hitchcock. She has published home care articles in peer reviewed journals including IMAGE, Home Health Care Nurse, Home Health Care Management and Practice, Home Care Provider, and Journal of Community Health Nursing. She is a past American Nurse Scholar whose published qualitative research for successful aging of older “Women of the Kingdom” has been presented locally and nationally.
